Visa Prepaid Card
The UPside Visa Prepaid Card is issued by the MetaBank, a licensee from Visa USA, Inc.
It allows you to spend without the risk of acquiring debt because it has no actual percentage rate or APR or annual
interest rates. It is also claimed to be a popular money management account suitable for teens at least 13 years
old, as long as the account was opened with parents’ consent. It has three card plans namely Clear, Access and
Edge. Card application is via online.
The UPside Visa Prepaid Card Clear Plan
This has no card activation, monthly, annual and membership fees. This charges $2.50 per deposit transaction made
by people other than the card holder. It allows the maximum balance of $1,000. This does not allow ATM access and
not recommended for travel-related transactions. Customer service via voice inquiries are charged $0.99/call and $2
for speaking to a customer service representative.
The UPside Visa Prepaid Card Access Plan
This has the $2.99 monthly membership fee. The card activation fee is $4.95, which is charged only once upon
beginning the Access Plan. No charge for deposits made other than the card holder. $2,000 is the maximum balance.
ATM access is available both in the US and other host countries. Here are ATM fees: cash withdrawal is $1.49, and
balance inquiry is $0.99. Voice inquiries are charged $0.99 per call.
The UPside Visa Prepaid Card Edge Plan
The annual membership fee is $29.95, and has no activation fee. Like the Access Plan, it has no fees for deposit
transactions and has full ATM access. The same ATM transaction fees apply. The maximum balance is $3,000. The first
voice inquiry is free. The same fee as Access Plan’s applies for the succeeding calls.
All the prepaid plans have no fees for the following services: purchase transactions; via website or phone
funds-reloading from checking or savings account (except for the Access Plan, which charges $0.99); and text
message inquiries via cell phone. All prepaid card plans charge $2.50 for funds-reloading from credit or debit
account. Furthermore, they allow suspension of card accounts due to card misplacement through cell phone Internet
UPside Visa Prepaid Card also offers an online UPside Mall shopping account. This account enables you to
earn points from twelve general merchant categories with 173 stores participating. Earning points vary for every
purchase and store. The reward points you could get are: lowest - one for every dollar spent, highest - 1,900 for
every HD equipment purchase. You could also receive $10 for every 1,000 points. You can also get instant 500 points
when you refer another user who would pursue the UPside prepaid cards. Additional points are acquired from special
promotions like the Purchase-of-the-Month mechanics. The reward system for the Edge Plan is different. You get one
point for every dollar deposited in your card aside from the Upside Mall points.
The UPside website hosts the UPside Mall listing of reward-point stores, teens’ homepage, and other help desks for
probable card holders.
