Membership and Location

The following are eligible for membership to Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union:

o Residents of Taylor and Callahan counties in Texas including those who work, attend school or worship there even if they reside elsewhere.
o Immediate family members of current members - spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent or grandchild of a current member including adoptive relationships and step-relationships in these levels.
o Household members of current members - persons living in the same residence considered as part of a single economic unit.
o Immediate family members or household members of persons who are eligible for membership even if the latter has not chosen to become a member.
o Employees of public school systems in the following Texas counties: Callahan, Coleman, Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Kent, King, Knox, Nolan (however, professional employees of the Sweetwater, Texas ISD are ineligible for membership because an unaffiliated Teachers Credit Union exists in Sweetwater), Runnels, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor, and Throckmorton.

Those who are eligible can become a member upon the opening of a minimum $ 25 savings (share) account and the payment of a one-time $1 membership fee. Membership application may also be made online. Membership is lifetime regardless of where you may live or work in the future.

Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union has 4 branches located at Antilley Road, North 6th Street, Buffalo Gap Road, E.N. 10th and at N. Mockingbird (drive-thru only).

There is only one Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union. The city of Abilene is sometimes spelled Abilen. There is no Abilen Teachers Credit Union - if ever the name is used, it really refers to Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union.

Credit Card Products of Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union

Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union carries the following credit card products: VISA, VISA Gold, MasterCard and Gold MasterCard and Share Secured MasterCard. Except for the latter, the credit cards offer the following advantages: no annual fees, no balance transfer fee, no currency transaction fee, a late fee of only $17, 25 days interest fee, and a very low Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 9.90%.

Other Products and Services of Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union

The other products and services of the credit union are: Everything Checking Account (including Overdraft transfer from savings to checking, Courtesy Pay for overdrafts, VISA Check Card); Restart Checking Account; Share Savings Account; Savings Safari Children's Account; various types of IRAs; home loans (home mortgages, refinancing, home equity loans, home improvement loans, unimproved land); Personal and Other Loans (personal signature loans, share secured loan, loans for furniture, appliances, musical instruments and personal computers); and holiday and vacation loans.

Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union has online banking services, mobile banking services, text banking, FinanceWorks, Purchase Rewards, Bill Payment and Presentment Services and E-Statements.

Bad Credit/No Credit History

For eligible members with bad credit and no credit history, Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union has a Share Secured MasterCard and Restart Checking Account. Nevertheless, don't expect to be extended the perks of its regular credit card features - there may be annual fees, balance transfer fees and other fees and your APR may be higher, you may even be required to have a guarantor or a co-signor.

Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union also has Restart Checking Services specifically, as suggested by the name, for individuals wishing to rebuild their financial history. The account does not have minimum balance maintaining requirement and has unlimited check writing privileges but there is a $5 monthly fee. After a year of being in good standing, you may graduate into the credit union's regular checking account services.
